It is on record that Mr Robert Gabriel Mugabe’s ZANU-PF was supposed to be disqualified for the bloody campaign of violence that it was perpetrating against the other Political Parties before and during the 1980 Elections.
Many PF-ZAPU Office bearers, supporters and Election Agents were murdered by ZANU-PF thugs and the then Governer of Rhodesia, Lord Soames was under severe pressure to declare ZANU-PF disqualified from the General Elections. But we understand Lord Soames was told in very clear language that there was going to be the most fierce campaign of violence if ZANU-Pf was excluded from that Election and the same if ZANU-PF lost that Election.
Refer the article in "The Zimdiaspora" ( http://www.zimdiaspora.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4790:mugabe-threatened-war-if-joshua-nkomo-won-1980-elections&catid=38:travel-tips&Itemid=18 )
It is therefore debatable whether ZANU-PF indeed got the 57 seats legitimately or whether “adjustments” were made to give them a very clear win to let Zimbabwe have a peaceful start after a decade of bitter Armed Struggle.
So Robert Gabriel Mugabe became the Prime Minister of The Republic of Zimbabwe.
Not more than two years later Mugabe claimed that the PF-ZAPU leader, Mr Joshua Nkomo was planning an Armed Revolt against his Government. Please kindly read Dr Joshua Nkomo’s response to those allegations…

PF-ZAPU was then led into a very lengthy negotiation with ZANU-PF where they ended up being effectively swallowed up by ZANU-PF.
How did Mugabe become Executive President in 1988?
We must remember that Dr Joshua Nkomo lost the opportunity of ever becoming the Executive President of Zimbabwe by signing on the dotted line and accepting the Co-Vice Presidency of ZANU-PF and hence the Co-Vice-Presidency of the country.
There was never a Presidential Election where he (or anyone else for that matter) could challenge Robert Mugabe at the Polls.
Mugabe just walked in and took Mr Simon Vengai Muzenda and Dr Joshua Nkomo as "his" Deputies.
Enter Mr Edgar Tekere and his ZUM in 1990.
He challenged Robert Mugabe for the Presidency in 1990 and nearly lost his life in an assassination attempt which took Mr William Ndangana's life. Refer Mr Trust Sibanda's "IS ROBERT MUGABE THE MASTER-ASSASSIN?" ( http://dearmrrobertmugabe.blogspot.com/2006/11/is-robert-mugabe-master-assassin.html )
Mr Patrick Kombayi simultaneously challenged Mr Simon Muzenda in Gweru and nearly lost his life in an assassination attempt. Mr Robert Mugabe hurriedly gave the two ZANU-PF thugs an undeserved Presidential Pardon.
Fellow Zimbabweans, was Robert Gabriel Mugabe ever properly and freely and fairly elected as a Zimbabwean President?

What happened in 2002 and the MDC Leader's Election Petition (which Robert Mugabe described as "frivolous and vexatious"?)
What happened in 2008?
Does Robert Mugabe deserve the decency of being "challenged" in yet another sham dangerous exercise where hundreds more will definitely be assaulted, displaced and scores will without doubt be murdered?
The question still stands: Was Robert Mugabe ever a Legitimate President of Zimbabwe?
